A little taste of Spring

I just wanted to share the pictures I took of the flowers in my front yard this afternoon. After tonight's cold snap, they will probably die, so I wanted to take pictures today to show how lovely they were. Enjoy!

This last one is in honor of the childhood memory story. This wisteria bush isn't nearly as big as the one that covered the tree I talked about in that post, but it is still beautiful.

clear blue sky

I realized today that I haven't posted a picture in a long time, so I wanted to fix that right away! I need to start carrying my camera everywhere again. I've missed some amazing sunsets these last few weeks. Anyway, I took this picture on a nature trail in Gulf Shores. The beach is about a mile from this spot, but the trail takes you right to it. There are so many amazing trails in this area - I don't think I'll ever manage to cover all of them! I'm going to try, though.

One of my favorite places

I realized I haven't posted a photo in awhile, so I wanted to post this one. This is, as the title suggests, one of my favorite places. I love to come here and just enjoy being outside, being around nature and breathing the fresh air. I love watching people here, writing here, and reading a good book here. This is one reason my heart will always be tied to this place.

Photo Hunters Theme: Funky

Play that funky music, white boy! This photo is of some of my friends at a show. They were getting funky on the dance floor! It was a fun night, which I'm sure you can tell!

Photo Hunters Theme: Tiny

Although this is a closeup, these flowers are actually very tiny! I think they are beautiful.

Photo Hunters Theme: Fake

I know I didn't actually take this picture, but it was taken with my camera. I hope that counts! This was taken at DragonCon last year. We were walking from one session to another and there he was! Totally fake, of course, but still pretty fun! We took each other's pictures and laughed about it. Everyone who passed did the same thing. It's a great memory from the convention.

Photo Hunters Theme: Sweet

I thought this was a very sweet moment. My little niece walking with her big brother and her grandpa. It was one of the many nature walks we take my sister's children on, and you can tell by this picture that this little girl is the princess of the family. Being the only girl, you would expect that, wouldn't you?

Photo Hunters Theme: Cooking

My beautiful nephew Noah making his favorite thing: a cherry jello cake. His dad is a chef and I'm pretty sure he inherited the talent, or at least the love of cooking from him. Doesn't he look like he's enjoying himself?!

Photo Hunters Theme: Childhood

I chose this picture for the theme "Childhood" because it represents the pure joy that children find in everything. I snapped this picture several years ago as my mother and my nephew ran into the waves on a bright summer day. Even in adulthood my mother still has the ability to have a childlike joy in everything. It's something she and I have in common, and it's something I hope we will both always have.

Photo Hunters Theme: Hobby

Geocaching!

These pictures are of my parents engaging in what has become a new family hobby: geocaching! Just after the second picture was taken, my dad found the cache hidden behind a metal pole. I had already seen it, but was pretending I hadn't so that my mom could find it. Alas, she still didn't, because my dad beat her to the punch! Oh well...

If you want to learn more about geocaching, go to www.geocaching.com and read their beginner's guide. It's a great way to get out into nature and a fun way to spend time with family and/or friends!

Photo Hunters Theme: Water

These are my photos for today's theme, taken last Saturday at Bellingrath Gardens in Mobile, Alabama. I thought I'd go with a whimsical one (the frog) and then one with an unusual perspective. I almost fell in when I tried to take the second picture. It was quite an adventure!

pretty!

Here are some pictures from my recent trip to Bellingrath Gardens. I truly enjoyed walking around, looking at the flowers. I hope you enjoy the pictures!

Photo Hunters Theme: Empty

An empty path may be lonely, but the journey along it can still be beautiful.

Photo Hunters theme: Soft

What is softer than a sweet baby? This is my youngest nephew, Kohl. He's 3 years old now, and is just as cuddly as he was when this picture was taken!

Photo Hunters theme: Antique

This is a picture of my favorite collection! This is the Harvard Classics Shelf of Fiction, printed in 1917. These are the oldest books I own. I wish I could say there's a long and beautiful story behind them, involving my great grandmother purchasing them for her children to read during long winters while they were forced to stay indoors, but the truth of the matter is, I bought them on eBay a few years ago! I'm sure these books have stories to tell other than the ones between the pages, though. I often imagine the lives of the previous owners and wonder what kinds of homes these books have had in the past. Anyway, it's the only antique thing I own, so there you go!

Photo Hunters Theme: Technology

For the theme Technology, I chose to photograph my favorite technological devices. My computer (with the Photo Hunters site on the screen, lol) the remotes for my TV, VCR and DVD player, my iPod (which I can't live without) my cell phone, my pocket computer, and my digital camera. You can also see some of my computer games (including The Sims 2) if you look closely. Don't look too closely, though, because you can see a little dust on top of the computer game holder.. lol..

Photo Hunters Theme: Memory

For the theme "Memory," I took a picture of a page in the scrapbook I'm making. These pictures are my parents through the years. It is just one of the pages in the book, but for me it is one of the most significant pages.

Photo Hunters Theme: New

I've decided to do this thing called Photo Hunters, where they post a theme every week and you post a picture that goes with that theme. For details, go here: Photo Hunters.

Every Saturday, I'll be posting a photo to go along with the theme. These posts will be marked with two things, a label called Photo Hunters, and the icon at the top of this post.

I chose this photo to signify the theme "New" because it captures the moment when my nephew held his new sister for the first time.

The Gremlins on Halloween Night

I actually meant to do this sooner, but it slipped my mind. But better late than never, right? Here are the gremlins on Halloween night. This was after they had done all their trick or treating. My house was the last stop on their list. Aren't they cute?
